What does Felix mean?
Fortunate, happy
From the Latin felix, "lucky" or "fortunate". It began as a Roman cognomen and was adopted enthusiastically by early Christians for its meaning.
The story behind the name
The dictator Sulla took Felix as an official surname to advertise the favour of the gods. Later the name went the other way: dozens of early Christian saints and four popes bore it, and it appears in the Acts of the Apostles as the Roman governor who keeps Paul in custody.
Felix is one of the very few Latin names that has stayed in continuous use in German, Dutch and Scandinavian naming without interruption, and it has risen strongly across Europe since the 1990s.
